Though the team had some ups and downs they performed well and had a number of excellent relay team and individual performances.
Team Highlights: Second Place Indoor City Championships with Individual wins by Amos Pres (Jr) in the 1000m (2:35.05), and Joe Dittmann (Sr) in the Long Jump (21' 3"). Also Elijah Gentry (Sr) ran a great time in the 3200m of 9:15.57 to finish second. Our 4x800 cruised to a city champs win as well.
Amos Pres (Jr), and Elijah Gentry (Sr) would go on to the State Championship Meet where they would earn federation Medals in their events. Amos finished 6th in the 1000m, and Elijah 6th in the 3200m Run with an all time Tech indoor best of 9:08.70. Our 4x800 (Elijah Gentry (Sr), Raymond Walls (Sr), Alex Jones (So), Amos Pres (Jr)) also earned federation medals with a 6th place finish (7:58.98)
Also at Nationals, Elijah competed in the 5000m Posting a time of 15:01.71 which is a new PSAL indoor Best for the distance.
Penn Relays:
The Boys Competed in the Penn Relays
Our DMR ran 10:19.40 to finish 11th. The Relay featured a 4:17.26 1600m leg by Elijah Gentry. Our Indoor PR was 10:17.60.
Though we didn’t quite reach our goal of earning a medal, the boys were really uplifted by the support of the Alumni at dinner that evening. It was a great experience for them to meet and be spoken to by the great Technites of the past. I hope that we are able to make a tradition of that
St. Anthony’s Invitational:
Elijah Gentry continued an amazing run of performances, finishing 3rd in the 1600 on Friday evening with a great time of 4:15.91 which is Currently NY#4. On Saturday he dominated the Field in the 3k Steeplechase with a 9:19.09 clocking. This time is currently USA #2, and PSAL #2 all time! Sophomore Alexander Jones was second in the 3200m with a 9:22.88, which is NY Sophomore #5
Loucks Games:
The 3200m race on Friday evening was epic!!! Elijah Gentry continued to amaze as he finished 3rd, Smashing the Tech Record with a stunning 8:55.11. He is only the 4th PSAL athlete to ever break 9 minutes for the distance.
The Boys 4x800m Relay posted an excellent time of 7:54.59 finishing 3rd. The Relay consisted of Elijah Gentry 1:56.83, Amos Pres 2:00.43, Alex Jones 1:59.75, and Travis Wolfe-Thompson 1:57.60. Alex and Amos also competed in the Full mile earlier that day clocking 4:21.42 and 4:21.47 respectively.
Borough Champs:
Tech boys kept their Borough Championship streak alive, but it was a close one, as the meet came down to the last event. Tech bested Thomas Jefferson 163-161.
The boys had their fastest 4x400 time since the 1980s (3:26.79) finishing in second place, behind Medgar Evers (3:25.96). They swept the 1600, taking the first 16 places! Elijah Gentry (S) took home the gold with a time of 4:21.57 followed by Max Haidt (S) and sophomore Alexander Jones.
Joe Dittmann took home gold in both the high jump and the long jump. Elijah Gentry also won the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:36.20
Senior Travis Wolf won the 800 in 2:01.44 with junior Amos Pres right behind in 2:01.89. Senior Raymond Walls was a step behind in 4th at 2:02.65
On the ladies side junior Susana Sharp won the 1500m with a time of 5:07.05 while freshman Francesca Haidt followed in second place. Lara Koblov finished in 4th, less than a second behind the 3rd place finisher.
Susanna Sharp also took 2nd in the 800m while the Tech ladies Beatrix Madell and Chloe Nebel finished one and two in Girls 2000m Steeplechase.
Tech needed a 1st through 6th sweep in the 1600m, as well as 1st through 5th in the 3200m. It all came down to the last event the 4x400 as Tech and Jefferson came into the race tied at 155. Tech Boys 4x400 of Elijah Gentry, Paul Garraway-Paul, Thanh Nguyen, and Travis Wolfe-Thompson clocked a 3:26.79 for second place and 8 points, Jefferson was 3rd for 6 points, Giving tech the 163-161 Victory.
